In sand I scribeI came here - to shore - to write your name in sand But with the tender strokes - my hand did make A quick rush of sea erased - my art from landIn sand I scribe
So again I strained - to compose so fast The name - I love, upon the waves Once more - it is brushed away - just as was the last
Once again I scribe - as some might finally say to me Why must you write - where it will wash away Never for your love - to stop and look and see
And I tell them - with a smile pressed upon my face
The reason for my strain and stress Why I let the sea - to continue - once more

I can see it nowI can see it nowI can see it now
A thorn in my side the size of Denver
Like seeing love letters
Cast with the words "return to sender"
And I can feel it now
A pain that burns inside my chest
Well, maybe slightly to the left
Yeah, right where my heart used to rest
And I can hear it now
"Forget what you need, you know what you want"
Never really knew what that meant
But it rang before and it rings again
And I can taste it now
Your subtle taste that makes me think
Of perfect reasons for every drink
And that smile that leads me on
